THE SEASON IS OPEN:
Steelhead fishing is open on Big Sur, Carmel, Arroyo Seco and San Lorenzo
Rivers on weekends, Wednesdays, legal holidays and the opening/closing day of
the season. The Carmel is open when the flow is at or above 135 cfs (call
649-2886 for flow info). In addition, smaller coastal streams may be fished
west of Highway 1. Be sure to have a 2003 license and steelhead
report card in your possession while fishing. Please review
the regulations before going out. If you have any questions, your are welcome
to contact me or the DFG (649-2870).
ANGLER SURVEYS: Located along
the rivers are angler survey boxes. Please take a moment at the end of each
of your fishing days to fill out the angler survey form. One of the only
reasons we've been allowed to fish these rivers is because we've had this
program in place. It is very important that anglers participate in this
program.
Poaching: Today was the first
day I have received information on poaching. The tip came from a legal angler
and I forwarded the info to Warden Barry Ceccon. For the time being the
perpetrators got away but we know who they are. This activity jeopardizes our
right to fish for steelhead so if you want to fish in the future, it's vital
that you report any and all violations. CalTip, 888-DFG-CALTIP or
888-334-2258, is the state's poaching hotline and callers remain anonymous.
You are also welcome to contact me (626-6586 or 596-7583) and I'll take care
of the problem.
Take the time to enjoy our steelhead fisheries and
hedge your bets by volunteering on this summer's fish rescue program.
Thanks,
Geoff Malloway
