Riparian Management Guidelines
CRWC and CSUMB have partnered to produce the Riparian Management Guidelines. This informative guidance discusses the importance of riparian habitats, fundamental concepts for managing the vegetation and health of these areas, and how to navigate their complex permitting system. Download below!
In the coming year, these Guidelines will be complemented with fire zone fuel reduction guidance and upland habitat management guidance. |
CRWC working with local partners on grant-funded wildfire projectCRWC has collaborated with the Resource Conservation District of Monterey County and the Fire Safe Council for Monterey County, two of our longtime collaborative partners for addressing wildfire resilience and community outreach, thanks to funding from the CA State Coastal Conservancy. The project will fund capacity building to develop wildfire resilience education and outreach material (digital and hardcopy) and events. It will also support the Carmel River Watershed Mapping project, which aims to create a fine-scale vegetation and wildfire regime map for the Carmel River watershed in partnership with California State University of Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Watershed Institute.

FIrewise outreach programCRWC is partnering with the Fire Safe Council for Monterey County to promote Firewise USA Communities and the Alert Wildfire cameras. This program is protecting human and wildlife communities, like our own!
What is a Firewise Community? It's a community and group of people who have taken appropriate measures to become more resistant to wildfire structural damage. With this certification, people living within the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) learn how to adapt to living with wildfire by preparing for a fire before it occurs. Learn more here. Key to successful wildfire prevention and management is good planning. The Monterey County Community Wildfire Protection Plan is community wildfire protection plan developed by the Monterey Fire Safe Council in 2010, with an update in 2016. CRWC partners closely with the Monterey Fire Safe Council on wildfire planning and projects. |
